Sales At South Korea's Top Five Automakers Fell 11.1 Percent In January From The Previous Month
Global sales of Hyundai, Kia, GM, Renault, Samsung and Ssangyong rose 1.4% in January from a year earlier to 613,100 units, down 11.1% from a month earlier, according to sales data released by major South Korean automakers Thursday, Yonhap News Agency reported. Sales in South Korea rose 16.7 percent to 116,300 units, while overseas sales fell 1.7 percent to 499,800 units.
To put that in perspective, Hyundai sold 3200, 000 vehicles in January, up 1.6 percent from a year earlier. Domestic sales rose 25 percent to 59,500 units, while overseas sales fell 2.5 percent to 260,500 units.
Kia sold 226,300 vehicles, up 2.5 percent from a year earlier, with domestic sales up 12.0 percent to 41,500 and overseas sales up 0.6 percent to 184,800. Local sales increased 6.8 percent from the previous month.
GM sold 36,100 units worldwide, with domestic sales up 19.7 percent to 6,106 units and overseas sales up 95.2 percent to 30,000 units. Including full-bulk assembly (CKD), overseas sales were down 8.7% year-over-year and total sales were down 6.0%.
South Korea's Renault Samsung sold 6,152 units, down 1.3% from a year earlier. Among them, domestic sales decreased 17.9 percent year-on-year to 3,534 units, overseas sales increased 35.6 percent to 2,618 units.
Ssangyong's sales volume was 8,678 units, up 13.4 percent year on year. Domestic sales and overseas sales increased by 1.6 percent and 13.4 percent, respectively. Since September 2019, the export volume has exceeded 3,000 units in 16 months.
