According to news on April 26, the US automotive lithium battery market has grown from US$1 billion in 2017 to US$1.39 billion in 2020. And the market size is expected to reach 1.99 billion U.S. dollars in 2023 and 2.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2025.

The new US government is making a lot of efforts to popularize electric vehicles in response to climate change, and the United States’ share of global electric vehicle demand may continue to increase. Tesla is the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer, but the local GM and Ford in the United States are also about to release a series of electric vehicles. Toyota, Hyundai, and Volkswagen also plan to provide more electric vehicle models in the United States.

According to data from market research company IBISWorld, Panasonic Battery was the number one car battery market in the United States last year. The company provides batteries for Tesla Model 3, S, and X, and has a 46% share of the US market. LG Energy Solutions ranked second with an 11% share, and EnerSys, A123 and Samsung SDI had less than 4% market share.

Currently, LG and SK take the lead in expanding the scale of EV battery factories in the United States. LG recently announced that it will increase its local manufacturing capacity in the United States at a rate of 30 to 145 GWh per year, equivalent to 2 million electric vehicles. SK is currently building a second factory in the United States. So far, the company has invested about 3 trillion won (17.4 billion yuan) in the United States and plans to increase it to at least 5 trillion won.
