Honda: Stop Selling Fuel Vehicles in 2040, 100% Electrified
At present, in addition to fuel vehicles, Honda only sells a small number of hybrid vehicles in North America, but in Honda's electrification strategy, North America occupies an important position. The cooperation with General Motors will help Honda achieve its goals in North America. According to the previously signed cooperation agreement, based on GM's Ultium battery technology and electric vehicle platform, the Honda brand and the Acura brand will respectively launch a large-scale pure electric vehicle in North America as a 2024 model.
As for the Japanese domestic market, taking into account the slow spread of pure electric technology, Honda has set a goal of 20% of the sales of pure electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles by 2030, 80% in 2035, and 100% in 2040. However, in view of the fact that hybrid technology has become more mature and popular in Japan, Honda alone has set a goal for the Japanese market to achieve 100% electrification, including hybrid vehicles, by 2030. To this end, Honda plans to start launching a pure electric version of the mini-car in 2024.
